Telling the many stories that create our city’s shared history.

Annapolis Stories, a local oral history initiative that started in 2017, gathers the voices and memories of the many communities that make the city of Annapolis, Maryland special, using videos and maps to link our personal stories to place. The goal of the project is to use the mapping and video capability of smart phones to gather the voices and memories through videos and photos of the many communities that make the city of Annapolis special.

The idea is simple: we ask people to share their memories and the history of events or places in town they care about, and take a very short video of them telling that story. Each of these short videos is pinned to a Google map of the city, and made viewable on computers or smartphones. There can be many videos for one location, because there are many histories.

Videos are generally about two minutes long, and feature one person or more. Sometimes when photos and other resources are available we add them to show even more of the story. Videos must be true stories, and may not be advertisements. Videos are free and made available to the public.

Annapolis Stories is a project of Fox Road Productions, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation organized in Maryland. It was formerly “Annapolis Story Map,” and in 2023 changed its name to better capture the goals of the initiative.
